Nintendo Has Sold Over 600 Million Devices Since Its Launch | WebProNews

Nintendo has released some very exciting news as they announced just how many gaming systems they have sold since the company started releasing games. Nintendo has announced that they have sold 600 million consoles since the year 1987, when the Nintendo Entertainment System was released. Good news, but let's hope Nintendo can turn around the fate of the Wii U.

That is great and believable that they sold 600 million games. Nintendo has developed great gaming systems since they launch and I believe they will continue to make great games, even thought they had some that were failures.

I believe Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Smash, Kart, Party are enough for Nintendo...plus they have other titles in the chamber such (Star Fox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, different Mario spin-offs, offshoots, and canon series). Nintendo is the company that can get by without 3rd party, but they do need more studios and to get more games out with their franchises. Mario alone has so many different titles under its umbrella that there could be 2 Mario games a year minimum for both Wii U and 3DS and support from their other franchises that year.

Sometimes I think Nintendo should've gone with it. Nintendo has the best rate of success from the 3rd generation to the present and most likely could've made it work. It would've also changed the history of weaker consoles being the best at sales (PSX, PS2, Wii) since Nintendo were making powerful consoles up until the Wii.

Then again Nintendo had every right to bail since CD-based consoles had a history of failing at the time. Plus their practice of high license fees might not have seen them get the number of titles PSX and PS2 did. Like Nintendo has a money tree and they'll always make a profit even if they're not selling (it used to be odd to me because even when the first Xbox outsold the GC Microsoft still lost money and Nintendo still profited).

Who knows how history would've turned out.

Not quite true. Sony and Nintendo were working together, until a day before they were to announce their new agreement to the world...Nintendo dropped them-without telling them-and announced that they were going to work together with Philips to create the Philips CD-i.

That is a serious amount of games that were sold, apparently things are looking good for Nintendo. Clearly they have some very popular titles that draw people's interests.

I honestly thought Nintendo would have sold a lot more consoles then 600 million. While 600 million is a large number, I would've thought their sales would have been in the billions by now considering its popularity around the world. Practically every one that I know has some sort of Nintendo device, which makes me feel like 600 million is a little low.

Good thing they have more than Mario, Pokemon and Zelda then, isn't it? Everyone always says that Nintendo is on their way out, and yet every generation, Nintendo continues to keep chugging along. They've been around longer than most modern companies. They're not likely to go anywhere any time soon.
