Potential Size Of PS4's Game Library

If I'm not mistaken, I might have read somewhere the PS2 has the largest amount of games compared to both other consoles (PS1 & PS3). I also read that the cause for PS3 having too few games at the start of its life was that developers were having a hard time with the hardware and are only getting it a lot more now and that's why we've been seeing more games in the past year or so. To our more knowledgeable members here, would you say that this statement is accurate? And with news that developers are seemingly a little more in tune with the new technology this time around, and Sony making practically all of the right moves and decisions, do you guys think we will finally again see a library as glorious and vast as the PS2's? Or is the PS3/PS1 library type and amount of games good enough to emulate and strive for?

I hope so. We need more variety, too. Honestly sometimes I think I'm not really a gamer because sometimes I might have to wait a year or two before a game I'm interested in is released! It would be so nice to have good, fresh choices all the time. I like how the PS4's hardware is easier to work with, too, which will probably reduce developement time and minimize technical issues! Woo! Can't wait!

I wasn't disappointed with the amount of games on the PS3. Striving to have as many awesome games as the PS2 did is lofty. I do expect there will be more variety just because of the hardware itself in addition to the fact that developers are having an easier time with the PS4. I'll be happy if there are around 1,200-1,500 games by the end of it's cycle.

The PS3 has a LOT of games, I'm sure it has more than the PS2 considering its longer life-cycle and things like the rise of indie developers and smaller digital games. Maybe if they were talking about exclusives the PS2 would have more than the PS3 (because this gen has had the vast majority of games as multiplatform games).

Yes, I would agree that the Playstation 2 probably had the greatest selection of games. The Playstation 2 was one of the best consoles to ever be marketed. It had some of the best games I had ever played as a kid. It was always exciting playing these games, because it was always varied. On these upcoming new Gen systems, we all are hoping that they will have a great variety of them.
