PS4 graphics comparision video shows how far we have come since PS1

Here is the video which shows you how far we have come since PS1. It shows the progress we made and compares games from PS1, 2, 3 and 4. Here is the video -

I had that thought yesterday while playing The Last of Us. It really is amazing just how far the medium as a whole has come in the past 20-30 years; both technologically and as a narrative medium.
Who would've thought that we would go from Mario to games that rival, often even surpass movies in the way of story, scale, acting and sometimes even special effects. Let alone sales.
It's truly mind-blowing and makes you wonder where we'll be at 10-20 years from now, especially with things like the Oculous Rift and that treadmill thing that goes with it on the horizon. Will we truly feel like we're walking in someone else's shoes by then? Experiencing things unthinkable by any other medium? Time will tell.
But it sure is interesting to think about.

It would have been nice if the video was a couple minutes longer so that they could focus on the games a bit more. It was still very effective, though. I remember thinking "how could games look better than MGS 3 or God of War 2 or Final Fantasy XII", and then thinking the same thing with Uncharted 2 and God of War 3. But for real, how much better can it get after this next generation of consoles? The next Killzone and Watch Dogs look amazing. I wonder how good games will look in 2018.

I wonder if there would be a time where the in game characters would look exactly like real live persons. Brr. Imagine playing Mortal Kombat and God of War if the character graphics would look exactly like a real person. Games are looking more and more realistic. Don't you think that we're headed that way some time in the future?

I remember playing GTA IV and thinking it really can't get better than this. I thought it was the pinnacle of graphics and it seemed so realistic that there was no way they could top it. But, how naive I was.

Now GTA IV looks shit and the other games such as Last of Us make me feel the same. But I know that it's not the best and it will be topped by another game sooner rather than later. It's amazing how the boundaries keep getting pushed all the time and more and more realistic looking games are hitting the market every month.

Oh, by the way, is it just me or does Metal Gear look cooler on the PS2? Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was technically the best Metal Gear to date but what they did to Solid Snake (making him old and all) just detracted a little bit from its coolness. I would have preferred Snake be the same as he was in the PS1.

Very nice video and the meanig behind it is also very well "explained"/"shown". I had sticked with PlayStation since PS1 was released. I remember my early days of playing PlayStation 1 when we were all switching from Gameboy stuff. The evolution is amazing.
But the question is a follows: How more realistic will graphics get?

Amazing. There is so much possible with technology and it evolves so fast. Just think back of your childhood, there was a whole different standard when it comes to such things as computer, consoles, phones, cars.

Its mad to think of gta vice city than look at gta 4 or 5 its a huge difference and its shocking to think how technology is evolving soon we could have flying cars or whatever, gta will have flying cars.

I still think "It can't get better than this", but again, 10 years from now i already know that i am going to be wrong. How much more detail will we have on our games? How huge the worlds be? Will Virtual Reality be a industry standard? Will we really stop using controllers? Will we use controllers inside the Virtual Reality?

... Christ o_o

It's a bit scary to realize that I've been alive through all this advancement. I remember back when Squall looked as much like a real person as my mom or dad ><'

I just don't think graphics can reasonably get better next generation-- It's practically photo-realistic as it is.

Nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia. It seems like just yesterday, the PS2 was released. The video was very impressive though, such an improvement considering 4 generations after, the graphical capabilities has changed so much. From simple games with "meh" graphics like Frogger to incredible graphics like The Last of Us, definitely very noticeable. I'm seriously wondering how the next gen will turn out, and how the graphics will look like.

Technology is on fire today. There are so many different ways and schemes that developers can use to make the graphics better and enhance their quality. I only expect for graphics to continue to evolve as the years go by.

Of course, we are headed that way when graphics will be par with the real life - just like what we see in movies. But son 't expect the innovation in either graphics or gameplay from companies like Activision who are here just to cash in on their best selling franchise and milk it t o death.

Amazing how far videos have come. I just wonder what'll come next, it seems like they improved almost every graphic thing to the max, I could be wrong. But the ps4 graphics look so perfect. And when you look at PS1, and then PS4, you feel like how the fuck did that happen.

Honestly it is all very impressive, but I honestly don't want my killing/fighting games to get any more realistic. I don't need to see the light fading out of some dude's eyes. Or think of it this way - Bloody Mess perk plus photo-realism. No. I'm good - I see enough of that at work.

We are far far away from being photo realistic. It will take more than 10 years to get there.

It depends on the thing being focused on - in terms of background, armor, weapons, and the like we'll get there in no time. In terms of people it might take a while longer, because the human eye is very picky about what is and isn't an actual person.

Truly an amazing sight. If we've come this far since the PS1 and such, I can't even think of what kind of graphics are going to be out in 10 years or so. I remember using my Intel Pentium III to play some Porsche racing game. Now it isn't even capable of watching YouTube videos.
