PS4 Is 50% More Powerful Than Xbox One, Developer Confirms

50% extra power will make quite a bit of difference. If that makes games not freeze or long loading times then that is definetly a better edge on the Xbox One. Of course I will get the PS4 anyway so it is good news for me.

PS4 has advantages being straight up power. Xbox has this kind of tricky architecture to it with the eRam and everything but the bottom line is it has a weaker GPU and slower memory. That said I fully expect first part devs to take advantage of their perspective systems. Third party stuff may run a little better on the PS4 but don't expect a huge jump in multiplat.

Yeah, the words thrown by Microsoft last week were so hilarious. They were just trying to say anything to defend their console. Their logic, basically was that since both consoles have unknowns it will balance out in the end. Lolwut?

Although, I'm not sure if 50% is an overestimation or not. It's safe to assume that PS4 is indeed quite a bit more powerful than the Xbox One.

That's kind of the balance that has been struck, with the last couple generations. Sony has the more powerful console, generally speaking. Hopefully devs will actually take advantage of it this time around, though.

50% perhaps not. But the PS4 is more powerful than the Xbone. Now its up to devs whether or not we see that in PS4 games.

But what do you base that upon, aside them second hand statements? What hard numbers can you put to to calculate and compare?

Why I'm I not surprised, xbox one sucks and they're going to lose money.

I don't think that Xbox One just sucks. Don't be a mindless fanboy. Nobody likes it. Yes, it's true that they adopted some strategy which was ridiculous, but everyone makes mistakes. The one who concedes that he committed a mistake and rectify it ASAP, should be treated with respect.

For one thing the PS4's 8GB of GDDR RAM vs the Xbone's 8GB of DDR3 RAM.
Both have custom AMD chips and Sony has the graphics edge with an 18 compute unit GCN graphics core configuration. (Or so Ive read :o )
Why did Microsoft boost their CPU ? In a vain attempt to catch up some to PS4. In short, google is your friend.

I'm not surprised, really. They're both good consoles I guess. I think that Sony did a good job playing off of the XBox One disaster that happened when it was first announced and made the PS4 seem even better in comparison to the XBox One than it already had.

Here's is another bit of info to further expand on this story:

gamespot said:
Anonymous developer sources have indicated that the PlayStation 4 is "noticeably faster" than the Xbox One in key performance areas, according to UK magazine Edge.

Memory reads on PlayStation 4 are 40-50 percent faster than Xbox One, says the report, and the arithmetic logic unit (ALU) on Sony's graphic card is also said to be twice as fast than its next-gen competition.

A basic example given by one developer is that a current multiplatform title can run at a resolution of 1920x1080 at 30fps on PlayStation 4, but that on Xbox One the framerate will drop to 20-something at the lower resolution of 1600x900.

“Xbox One is weaker and it's a pain to use its ESRAM,” added another developer.

Interesting. If memory reads really are 40-50% faster, that'll be really really nice. Cutting down on loading screens is a big thing I'm hoping for.

This means absolutely nothing and you're throwing out raw figures rather than quantifying them in any reasonable manner. Merely saying something is "50% more powerful" is nothing but buzzword hype if you don't show how you calculated the figure. Citing memory reads as 50% faster does not directly translate into "50% More Powerful".

In short, Google may be your friend, but regurgitating you're friend's blanket statements isn't going to earn you any influence.

I didnt make this up mate and they are not my figures, its fact..its a dev story on the PS4 being the superior of the two and in raw power so far from what we know the PS4 is more powerful. Not just the memory but clock speed.Simple as that.
You can deny it if you want,it's no skin off my nose.
But yes, specs are one thing, let's see what games will look like, escpecially in a few years time on both systems.

I think it's all kind of unimportant in the short game, but in the long run one might boost ahead of the other in a few random aspects like characters on screen at the same time, draw distance, etc.. you know, stuff most people don't give a crap about.

Sounds like this isn't really your type of conversation, buddy.

Nobody has any hard numbers other than Sony, Microsoft, and the people developing for their consoles. If a developer says the PS4 is 50% more powerful, we take his word for it, because he's the one developing for the damn thing. You can doubt him, sure, and there aren't any hard proof or figures in the article, but that's up to you. You can't really go around asking for hard figures when obviously we don't have them. It's just, well, obnoxious of you.

Taking this at face value, I don't think it's going to do much for the Xbox vs PS debate. Being "more powerful" is subjective and I'm not exactly sure how that 50% number is arrived upon. Also, even if it were 2000% more powerful than the Xbox One, it would mean nothing if developers didn't take advantage of the extra "power" (whatever that means).

Think of it like this - God of War 3 (fighting on top/inside of climbing/fighting) Titans while they are in turn attacked by Gods all at the same time. It was an excellent piece of work as well as an exclusive. Other exclusives include Heavy Rain, Last of Us, and more all of which have impressive AI as well as graphics and concepts. So where you are likely to best see the advantage is going to be exclusives and possibly limited ports from like PC.

100% agree with this. Its true these guys haven't had enough time to play with the hardware you really have to take everything in and see what happens. But third party sources are some of the best sources on info sometimes. Besides exclusives is where you'll see the advantages just like another member just stated.

I have to agree with you here. In long run these aspects will definitely be considered when someone will buy a console.

It might not make a difference right now, but in the future, devs are going to definitely be making even more graphically intensive games, and this is when it might make a difference. The PS3 might get ~45FPS, while the XBox One could only get ~20, which for me is a game breaking framerate. I can't handle anything below 30, and I really don't like to play if I get anything below 60 on PC games. Some of my friends can play a game at 10FPS and not complain.

Yeah. If it turns out to be true that PS4 can actually run things that the Xbox One physically cannot, I'll be interested. Lord knows the Xbox One won't be able to pull anything like that on the PS4.

Even if this is true you will only see this in exclusives (first or third party). When you look at the 360 and PS3 launch games compared today they don't even compare. I suspect MS was still trying to cut some corners to allow for bundling Kinect.
