PS4 vs. Xbox One - The Ultimate Showdown!!!

Not really a showdown for me. For the price at the time, PS4 was the way to go regardless if I preferred Xbox, which I never have. I prefer the exclusive titles for PS much better than the ones for Xbox. Even now that the Xbone price matches the PS4 I still wouldnt buy it for principles if nothing else. They had the gall to charge extra because they decided to have the kinect as mandatory, only to get rid of the mandatory kinect (after saying they couldnt do that) to cut 100 bucks off the console to try and increase sales.

As it stands, PS all the way.

I have always had a Playstation. I've not always had an XBox and the one I did have I didn't much care for. The controller is just...off. Plus, XBox doesn't have Uncharted, and that game series is an absolute must-have for me. PS wins it (big surprise!)

I think the Playstation is still winning the gaming war. The XboxOne hasn't proven its Kinect capabilities worth it or established a video game deals (PSPlus). I think PS will steal the show again at E3 but I hope they aren't complacent but that they continue to push new ideas and show off some new tech and most importantly new games.

Microsoft is now selling the Xbone without Kinect for the same price as the PS4. I actually have to give Microsoft some credit for dropping the non used games and now dropping the mandatory Kinect.

I think Sony will win based on better third party games and superior hardware. However, Sony has released a lot of 8 bit crap games on PSN that are just embarrassing. So far, Infamous Second Son is the only true Next Gen Exclusive for the PS4.

I think Sony will win the console war but Sony needs to do a better job of getting the AAA exclusives out for the PS4 so they can bury Microsoft.

Sony is way better. I just tried the xbox one for the first time last night. I prefer the PS4. I will never be buying an xbox again unless they step their game up.

Credit? It was consumer backlash that forced them to change their policies and now they are selling it without Kinect for the cheaper price to try and catch up with Sony, despite them saying they will never sell it without Kinect.

I agree here, these are just rubbish to me as well,But then they are free as PS+ subscribers.Even so,they are still crap.

As a business owner in IT, I have to deal with MS a lot and trust me when I say they have a habit of doing what they want and sweeping things under the rug. At least they gave in on the backlash from their use base. I am not sure Sony would do the same. Sony stuck to their guns when removing Linux from the PS3 even though it cost them a ton of money in false advertising class action lawsuits.

Yes, I do give Microsoft credit for making their system right. It may have been fear but it is a company that has plenty of capital and could have easily refused to give in. Of course the truth is they probably just delayed in one generation. At some point, all video game makers are going to try to get rid of used games. Car makers would get rid of used car market if they could.

So its been a long time since I rang in on this topic. I've had real life blues all over the place and my gaming suffered a little bit for it, but we're coming to the end of the first push of this console generation and here's the couple of things I noticed.

First, PS 4 immediately seized opportunity away from Xbox when there was all the concerns about DRM for the Xbox. There were a lot of people that were swayed away from Xbox by this issue. Even more so, people came over to the PS side during the security issues where Xbox engineering essentially caused everyone to wonder if they could be spied on since the Xbox originally was suppose to be always on.

Next, PS took all their capitalization and moved towards a dominating start. I feel like they have been dominating as well. All of my friends who write about games or have some sort of connection to the industry talk more about Playstation than Xbox.

Finally, Xbox makes the first change and decides to ship hardware without the Kinect. This is a pretty big tell that they are hurting in the beginning here. I think that things will even out but it could be years to recover from that dip.

Playstation has taken an amazing push and now they are leading this war. Well done Sony.

I am most familiar with Play station so I will stick with it. I have used Xbox and have no complaints with it but for now I will hang onto PSIV.

For an unbiased opinion if it even matters at this point.

I recently traded in my XB1 for a PS4. The biggest thing that disappointed me with the XB1 was the lack of indie content. I know that sounds unusual but I really enjoy indie titles. I don't need mind blowing graphics to enjoy a game.

My biggest complaint on the PS4 is the home screen. It's bland and accessing content is far easier on the XB1. If there is a way to customize the home screen I haven't found it yet. There is also more apps content on the XB1 that the PS4. Where is Youtube? There is a lot of things Microsoft did right with the XB1, including making it a complete home entertainment hub. Switching between games to TV, to apps is flawless. Turn the XB1 on and everything powers up, which was nice.

The only thing I am really going to miss on the XB1 is Forza. Other than that there are no regrets on the trade.

Agree on the PS4 home screen and new XMB,I dont think its anything special really and no better than PS3,no worse, just different.
As for media hub thing it doesnt bother me,I think PS4 is intended as a games console first and foremost, media playback, apps etc are a distant secondary and no great loss if you ask me.
I know this day and age you would expect diff from a new console but that's my view on it anyway.

I think the XboxOne went a little overboard in trying to make it a media hub,I think most gamers buy a console TO game, not use apps or watch TV.Many have smart TV's that have all that now too.

No,call me old fashioned but game consoles are for gaming, anything extra is nice for sure, but not required.

I agree with this statement exactly.

I like all the extras but the gaming system is what I want. I can use other devices to access secondary apps.

The ultimate point is the fact that it takes no required effort for either system to use it a game system only. Insert disc or select downloaded game requires no more or less effort for either system. The fact that the PS4 has slightly better graphics is a moot point for me, as I care more about play mechanics than how pretty a game looks. With the XB1 combining everything into one, there is no longer a need to jump between devices when you're finished with your gaming.

IMHO it would be like buying a phone that only takes phone calls and you have another device for your internet and texting.

Realistically, your phone can play games too. Why even buy a new system?

I only use my gaming systems for gaming, and probably always will. My phone on the other hand, it has taken over several devices, and is encroaching on my gaming systems more and more everyday.

LOL yeah it's a lot of effort to press the HDMI2 button and use my smart tv.

And everyone who has a game system has a smart TV right?

For me it is the opposite. I didn't spend the extra money on a smart TV simply because the game system will do it for me. Why spend the extra couple of hundred dollars for the same quality TV but "smart" when the current game systems already have the content built into it?

Content for starters, small screen, cumbersome controls, I could go on?

Yes, thats obvious, but not really the point of my post. The point is, a mobile phone can do most of what an xbox one/PS4 does, but you still buy an xbox one/PS4 for gaming, because they do gaming better.

Gaming systems are not meant to replace other home devices like computers or cable boxes. Sure they can provide that content for those that want it, but their sole focus should always be gaming. Sony hit the nail on the head with that right away, and we no see MS playing catch up.

That's funny, because they have. If they haven't, Sony wouldn't offer the apps that they do, nor would MS. Both systems play fantastic games, both first and third party titles, and that has been a given since the first generation of either platform. Right now the PS has the edge on content, but the navigation to get that content is below what XB1 has (hell, it's below what the 360 has), and unfortunately it's by a long shot at the moment. This of course doesn't mean I am unhappy with the PS4, it is just my opinion that Sony got lazy with the home screen.

If you are trying to tell me that the PS4 is a better gaming platform I'm sorry to say that's all objective.
