PS4 vs. Xbox One - The Ultimate Showdown!!!

So I've had the Xbox One for a few days now (since Wednesday) and is it just me, or does the Xbox One just chew up the internet usage?

Checked our usage today and since I purchased the Xbox One, our usage has sky-rocketed! Altogether I've only played about 3-4 hours of games (Ryse and Dead Rising 3). I don't remember the PS4 chewing up as much...

It is possible that it has to do with a lot of updates and patches that get installed right after you purchase it?

Yep. I did that on the first day I purchased it. But everytime I use it (and I've watched the internet usage) since then, it continues to chew up the usage.

That is strange. The 360 did not have that problem and I have only played the Xbone at a friends but have never heard of that problem. I bet you can find out on an Xbone forum because it may be a bandwidth hog or it could be something that is done when you first get the console.

Good Luck!

I love the PS4. I've had every single PlayStation console to date and in my opinion PlayStation 2 was better than Xbox, PlayStation 3 was better than the Xbox 360 and the PS4 is BETTER than the Xbox One. Most of my friends got the Xbox One but they can all suck it PS4 for life!!!

All of my friends decided to switch to PS4 instead of getting the Xbox One. Honestly speaking, I don't know anyone personally that perfers the Xbox One over the PlayStation 4 in real life.

It takes a bit to get adjusted to the system after spending the past few years on the 360 but It's really enjoyable. I like that there are no forced ads on the home screen of the PS4. I wish, however, you could place games in folders on the menu and I wish that the PS4 had a system music player other than the one you have to pay for.

I finally now own both the Xbox One and PS4 and have some thoughts about them. Please keep in mind this is only my opinion and not saying it really means anything. :>

I guess I can start with how each looks as there is a pretty big difference. The Xbox One is a medium sized heavier square box with a big, some people call it a brick, power cord. Nothing fancy, but a lot of venting and fans so it does the job. The PS4 looks a little sleeker with a smaller tapered look, much smaller lighter with a normal power cord. I like the look of the PS4 better now that I have seen it in person, but overall if in an entertainment unit, it really doesn’t matter, but if on a desktop, it might matter more and the PS4 does look a little better.

The controllers are next, again there is a pretty big difference between both. The Xbox One controller is one stick and directional pad, it works well and fits in your hands very nice. It is a little larger and heaver than the the PS4 controller and it's noticeable sometimes especially if your switching back and forth between the two systems. The PS4 controller has a different dual stick layout, small touchpad area and built in speaker. It also allows the use of any headset with a standard 3.5mm jack, no adapter is needed like the Xbox One controller requires. The Xbox One controller is rock solid like anyone that has used one knows, but I am sort of liking the touchpad and speaker of the PS4 controller. It might not sound like much, but when a game utilizes the controller speaker or touchpad it really adds a lot. I still get a kick every time a sound comes out of it, but again that is just me.

The all important games are a big question. For my taste, I find both systems have some stunning and fun games. Each one has both big hits and misses, but I don't think either really has an edge to better games, especially when looking at upcoming games thru the end of the year. I found the PS4 with PS+ does offer a few more freebies and demos, but the Xbox One and Live has some too. I have no real brand loyalty to any "exclusives" like Halo, Kill Zone, etc... so no game or even couple games is going to make any difference in the choice of systems for me. If your someone who must have one of the "exclusives" then nothing about the other system is going to change your mine and your locked into the system it's on.

Next thing a lot of people ask me now that I have both systems, which has better graphics. The real answer is both have amazing graphics, but a lot can depend on the game. Both have games that will amaze you and both have only so so games. If I really had to pick one, I would probably have to say the PS4 has a slight edge.

UI, apps, kinect, snap window and other included things. I am condensing this so not to be overly long. For the "who has the most of this and that", by far the Xbox One does. More apps, more features, more elaborate UI, more TV features, etc.... but one caution is at this time not all of them work well. The kinect and TV features on the Xbox One I found so frustrating and buggy I removed my kinect and do not even use any of the TV features anymore. The snap window on the Xbox One is neat, allowing you to play a game and do something else or really do any two things at the same time. The PS4 does not have as many features and is more streamlined with a simple UI, only a handful of big name apps, but was designed that way. What is better depends on personal preference really. Do you prefer everything and the kitchen sink or do you prefer simplistic with just the basics, that’s up to you.

Another thing I have been asked a lot owning both systems, is which I prefer or think is the better system. I really don't think there is a solid winner, it depends on what you want. If you want possibly the slightly better gaming system, don’t care about apps, TV stuff and all that, I would say go with the PS4. If you want a lot of everything and some great games too, go with the Xbox One. I really see the PS4 more as a gaming system not an entertainment system like the Xbox One is trying to be.

The future and bottom line is, which one you will prefer all depends on your own preferences and needs. Both are great systems with stunning graphics and fun games. Who knows what the future holds. Microsoft seems to be adding anything and everything they can with updates all the time so chances are better the Xbox One will add/have it and have it first if Sony even ever adds it. Sony seems to be more concentrated around gaming, but if they wanted, they could pretty much make the PS4 do everything the Xbox One can, except the TV stuff with the pass thru, with just an update or two. So the future could be very interesting.

Really good, unbiased post from someone that owns both systems. Thanks for that rkkeller. I have bounced around between the two companies over the years. I loved my PS2 until it died on me. I decided to try an xbox after that which was around the birth of Xbox Live. Xbox Live was amazing at the time and really forced my hand during the Xbox360/Ps3 release periods. I went with the 360 and was never disappointed (Forza 2 was great) but then I went through a four month period of 2 rings of death. The mail/wait/receive process to get it fixed was ridiculous. On my third 360 the disc drive failed and I rage quit to the local gamestop with all my 360 games, broken system, controllers, everything and traded it all in for a PS3. It was a blessing in disguise as the ps3 was everything I'd hoped for and I ran it all the way up to the ps4 release last year and stuck with Sony.

Sorry for getting a bit off topic but it leads me to my current dilemma which is more relevant.

I game about 20 hours a week and am always talking about it with people and they really want to play with me but I'm the only one with a PS4. I've sadly been stressed out by all of this (my wife says it's fine but I know she's thinking I'm the biggest f'ng tool deep down) because the social aspect is something I really want but I love my ps4 and the great games that I have to look forward to, like The Order and Uncharted 4, not to mention The Show. I almost had all my stuff packed up to take it down and trade it all in for Xbone, but these games on the horizon have held me back, even at the expense of not being able to play with people I know. Kudos to Sony for developing games that appeal to guys like me. Action, asskicking and baseball.

I have owned both consoles since launch. Both have their pros and cons. I wish I could combine both systems in to one console.

Sony has always had the better exclusives. I also prefer trophies over achievement points.

No trolling please.

Xbox one and PlayStation 4. They are both great devices. I'm not gonna come here and say one is better than the other because truthfully anybody can agree and disagree with my opinion. I say get what's best for you whether it is the ps4 or Xbox one. Period

I've just returned my Xbox One (like 20 mins before this post)! I've always wanted to go back to PlayStation since PS2 and never did because most of my friends own the Bone. I digress, I'm at a point in my life where I don't give a craps what people think and Ive stuck with my gut this gen and decided to get a PS4. Even though it's still updating as I'm writing this, it just feels right. I don't care about TV time or cameras or all that extra craps Microsoft tries to throw at you. I just care about solid gaming and hard-edged games. PlayStation has always answered that call. I missed an entire gen of great games I still yearn to play, I.e., God of War, Metal Gear, etc. I won't make that same mistake with this gen. All the best shooters are cross-platform and I live to switch it up with a good racing game or fighter. Sony has all that and more. I'm looking forward to this gen and many more conversations with you guys.

I own both systems and not for nothing the PS4 is not really much better than the Xbox One or has better games (just different ones). Truth is a lot of the resolution, fps and other talk you/we will not even notice, it just makes good "us vs. them" news.

See my review a couple posts above if you want an older guys honest unbias opinion.
