Third Party Controllers

I've recently been looking into getting some third party controllers for the PS3, mainly because I've grown tired of the standard one and would now like to find one with a little more bulk, possibly somewhere in between the Dual Shock and Xbox's controller. And I have found some good ones online, but they almost are never "perfect". For example, I saw one that has good form, rechargeable built-in batteries, but doesn't have six-axis. I also found one that was pretty up to par except for requiring AA batteries which just sounds medieval to me at this point.

Anyone out there who have used third party controllers that you would recommend?

I suggest you have a look at Best Buy. They were full of levers of this kind.
The controllers "DreamGear" are good. I always prefer the official controllers because others can give latency issues.

A sort of input lag.

Doing laps in a big box store comem Best Buy, Future Shop or Gamestop to get a good controller.

I generally wouldn't recommend it, but if you don't mind the quality then I don't see any reason not to use third-party controllers. I haven't had the best luck with third-party accessories, but I suppose my standards are a bit high. The PS3s controllers are highly overpriced, but you can find some pretty good deals online if you're patient and look in the right places.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend it either. I once wanted to cheap out and just get a cheap pad. It worked really well for a month or so and then it broke. So from that moment on I only buy official stuff. Maybe I was just a bit unlucky with that particular brand or even pad itself might have been faulty but I don't really trust 3rd party stuff anymore.

The name brand controllers I've had have never stopped working. They've just worn out from my using them for so long and so often. The third party controllers I've had, on the other hand, tend to stop working altogether at some point.

I'm not sure you'll find a perfect controller but I think the one without six-axis seems pretty good. I can't say I really care for six-axis considering I don't use it very often.
So I'm just going to have to suggest you either stick with the regular controller or get the six-axisless one that seems pretty great.

Ive bought at least 5 or 6 3rd party ones,most are nowhere near as good as the Sony.
The closest Ive come to a good one is a Snakebyte wireless one.
Its bigger,buttons feel quite good except one thing let it down,as does with most 3rd party ones,the analog sticks,movement just wasnt as precise,and this is a big issue when FPS gaming online.
It comes close,better than others Ive tried but just not quite there.And that really annoyed me,I really like the controller,but that issue is a let down.
I guess you could 'train' yourself to get used to it,I did try for a while but always ended up going back to the DualShock 3.

I honestly don't like the joysticks on the third party controllers, it feels wierd when you are trying to run on a shooter game. I prefer the original controller.

I've tried 2 third party controllers. One wired and the other wireless. Aside from the fact that neither felt as heavy as the controllers should, there were other problems that came up over time. For one, the wireless one came with a dongle and the controller itself had a hard time charging.

The wireless one stopped working period after about 3 months. My advice, don't bother with the third party ones. I may cost you a bit of extra money with the official controllers, but at least they're much more durable and you have less of a worry of them not working.

Have you guys never heard of Power A controllers? They have one for both ps3 and 360 they're amazing! They're $60 for ps3 and $70 for 360 i think. They are so much better than Sony and Microsoft ones. Ive used my ps3 one so much that when I went back to Xbox on the Microsoft controller I felt like I was holding a cheaply made controller. I now buy games for my ps3 for the sake of having that Power A controller to play it on!

I don't know, man. I think i would prefer to shell out a few more bucks than to buy a new controller every time you play because it simply breaks on your hands. At least that is what happened to me 90% of the time when i bought third party controllers for the PS2.

I don't have any third party playstation controllers but I have heard that the logitech ones are pretty good. I've tried some third party controllers for other systems, but the current gen systems I've stuck with the first party. It wasn't so much that I didn't see a controllers that looked cool or think about trying a third party, I just haven't had any issues with my first party controllers. They seem to work really well and hold up really well.

I agree, that most third part controllers are cheap and less quality. They all start off feeling great, and having a decent feel to them but they will eventually break. I am almost certain that any controller that is not from a trusted brand will eventually break.

I can see how the PS3 controllers don't fit the bill because of their small stature. However I can't stress enough how poor a decision buying a third party controller is. I've never seen one that is well-designed, not cumbersome, and completely functional. Some have a couple of those qualities but never all three.
