TV resolution help

Hello there,

I am thinking of buying the PS4 and was wondering if my TV would be a bad fit for it.I own a Samsung plasma with a
resolution of 854*400 or something of the sort. Will the lower resolution of the TV affect the functioning of the PS4 system?

Thank you

With that resolution, I'm assuming the TV doesn't have HDMI. PS4 will only output video via HDMI. You could probably buy a converter from monoprice, but TV's are cheap these days, you might as well get a new TV rather than deal with trying to convert HDMI to analog just to make it work for your TV. Even if you do get it to work, it would look very poor compared to any HDTV. If by some chance your TV does have HDMI input, you can certainly use it with PS4, but again it won't look nearly as good stuck in standard def. 720p and especially 1080p will spoil you very quickly.

It seems your TV is 480p.

I dont think PS4 supports that resolution, even if it works you get so much inferior picture, it looks dotted and squarish(similar to PS2 graphics).

I tried PS3 with 480p TV, the result was terrible, I assume IF PS4 works with that resolution the result would be worse.

btw You can get a cheap TV or even a monitor for that matter.

You can get a cheap plasma at Wal-Mart. You can get yourself a nice 42" plasma for under $300. Or i can totally sell you my 42" Samsung 1080p for $100. I will even throw in a wall-mount also for a total price of $160. The wall-mount is a month old and cost me $110 and the TV is about 3 years old. I'm getting myself a 42" 1080p SmartTV on Black Friday hehe!!! Cant wait for that beautiful picture! Selling it after Black Friday if interested.
