VR tech isn't happening

I'm still pissed because around 1985 I read a book that said by the year 2000 we would be in flying cars. We aren't in flying cars, and have no prospect to be for a long, long time. I think it's funny for me to watch Almost Human on Fox and they have androids, but are still driving in cars that have wheels on the ground. I think if we have androids, we should be so advanced to have flying cars.

And Almost Human is set to what, 2040?

I love that show! Maybe it's because they sacrificed CGI background buildings and environments for the hovering cars. So instead of having certain things, they put it all in the background to make it look more futuristic and awesome. Feels like Mass Effect sometimes haha.

I kinda stopped watching it lately though, just doesn't feel the same, the story is kinda blah, do you still like it?

Do you really want flying cars? People have enough trouble driving cars on the road, I do not want to think about the death rate and carnage that would happen with flying cars.

I'm still wondering where is the announcement for the hoverboard because I'm pretty sure that Back to the Future II promised me that. VR is a cool idea but if it doesn't work the way it does in every manga/anime that I've ever seen (key example .hack) where my consciousness is sucked in and playing the game then I'm not interested.

Yes! I really do. But the driving/flying test should be administered every 5 years or so, instead of a lifetime permit. And it should be really strict, like if you are driving and texting (if we even have texting by then, it might be pointless), then you are grounded and have to take the driving class all over again.

But Legendoflore lol, but can you imagine if there was a power surge while you're in the game, or if you underwent a really frightening experience and died, your mind would tell your body that you died and it would cause all sorts of neurological problems. Not to mention so many people would want to escape reality and live inside the game forever...

It's not going to be that level of sophisticated. I'm getting more of a looking in a viewfinder why your head serves as the right analog stick vibe.

It's no big deal since VR is still very young so to say. Right now, it's nothing but hype because nothing substantial has been shown yet. I for one do not care about it unless VR tech can reach to a state where it works like in the Matrix movie. Minus the holes of course.

The sensory feedback would sprout so many new types of businesses! Well, one business that's around right now would definitely benefit, as less people would be going out on dates, lol!

That's why I said a "very soft anticipation". Nothing special has been shown. There's been some people on Youtube trying it out and I have to agree with SXB and Nuke said, it's a pretty expensive right analog stick. They could've skipped VR and gotten right to the VR suits. Anything that takes VR beyond a visual thing will require you to sign a death and dismemberment waiver before purchasing.

The hoverboard is what I want. We should've had that by no later than 2005 and by now some sort of ballcycle or large wheel cycle. BTTFII/Reboot kinds of hoverboards. It wouldn't even need to hover the high off the ground. I would be too heavy for a 'board, but the point remains...we're late on that.

Exactly, whats the holdup on the hoverboard because while I'm not going to buy one. It's something we really should be using right about now. Still, VR tech is really young but I would like to see what progress they've made on it. It's got to be beyond the virtualboy by now.

I would've liked the hoverboard. Watch it come along when no one cares for one anymore. It'll be a kid's toy as opposed to an actual mode of transportation.

Yeah, I would be really interested in seeing how a hoverboard would hold anyone up!

haah I know right? We seem to be far more advanced than just consoles but we're not taking that leap yet I guess. Though, I'm sure nasa can make many things, just the government doesn't give them enough funds to do so.

I have to agree that we should've had hoverboards by now. I know I would use it, I don't care. We've had plenty of advancements in communications and streaming, medical, and all of that, but we couldn't get hoverboards. Sure we have self driving cars now, but hoverboards, man.

I'm not a big fan of the whole VR craze. We've already seen how lackluster new technology is when it comes to gaming like the PS Move and Kinect, which admittedly are fun novelty gadgets, but I don't think playing on the controller while looking at the TV is a formula that needs that much tweaking enough for these new gimmicks to warrant existence. Even if these were released by now, they would just gather dust because it's much more comfortable to play a video game without having to move anything other than your thumbs in my opinion.

VR tech really does depend on how exactly they plan to use it. I mean we have the 3D TV, but the glasses are uncomfortable and despite what people thought no one really wants one. How is VR tech going to be used? I think we all have an idea of what we want to see but I doubt that the system will be capable of that for years.
