What did you hate about the PS1?

It's another day, thus, I have another question.

There's no such thing as a perfect product. No matter how perfect a product feels, it will always have its own set of flaws. This time, we will be focusing on the glorious Playstation 1 and its imperfections. Trust me, I had a great time with my old console, but there were also time where I wanted to set it on fire.

To start the discussion, I will share my peeves about the console. The worst problem I had to face was the fact that I had to replace my joystick four times in two months. I don't know why, but it gets soiled so fast. I wasted so much money on joysticks.

Now that I've done my part, it's your time to share. Please feel free. Let's start a discussion.

For me, I think it has more to do with the analog controls which I have to replace, especially the left analog stick. Most games require a fully functioning left analog stick, so if that stick gets busted, you gotta find a way to replace it, or buy a new controller. It gets busted when the analog controller does not move back into position but instead sticks in the position where you last held it. It's not just for the PS1, but also for the PS2.

I think for me it was having to purchase lots of memory cards. There is nothing much more frustrating than losing a memory card with valuable save game data on it! It would be nice if it had a built in Hard drive to store most of the data, but for the time it was released I can't complain much. I think the PS1 was a little ugly to be honest if I'm going to criticise it further.

I never really had many problems with the controller for the PS1, I'm a pretty gentle presser. The ones my friends always used mostly got wrecked though, they press on those buttons like there's no tomorrow, and I even have to buy the new controllers since they were mine - go figure. If I had any complaints with the PS1, I'd say it's the loading time of most games. It's understandable, but I had a hard time transitioning since I've already been so used to playing games you could just reset and play at will.

I hated the limited capabilities of the PlayStation when it came to producing 4 player games. I remember playing X-men vs Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom in arcades and I liked them. I purchased their PlayStation 1 versions only to find out that the tag fighting gameplay has been edited to feature only one playable character per match! This is what I hated the most about the PS1.

Jesus, please don't remind me about the analog controls on the joystick. The nubs were fine, I have to say, but my main problem was with the analog button itself. You know, that small rectangular button which you had to press in order to activate analog controls. Deary me, I can still remember the broken and bruised thumb I had due to the self-induced rage I had when it wasn't working. Such good times :>.

Other than the fact that you needed several memory chips, I also didn't like the way you put the games in it. I liked the PS2 better when you could simply slide your game in instead of opening the disc cartridge and inserting the disc.

Oh I also hated all the first person shooter games that came out for the console. They always have me motion sickness every time I played. The N64 was a lot better in this department because it had better graphics. The PS 1 simply was very limited when it came to FPS games.

Lol. Yeah, I hear you themarksquared. That small rectangular button that activated analog controls was really a bit hard to press if you had large fingers.

Am i the only one who never had problems with it? The controller was fine, the games were great, and the system itself was pretty cool for the year it came out. Not better than the PS2, but if it wasn't for the PS1, we wouldn't have the beast that was the PS2.

I loved the PS1 overall but if there is one gripe I had, It was the graphics. I just don't think the graphics were all that great for the games. It just seemed like other systems had PS1 beat in that department.
