Why did you buy a Playstation?

Simple question. Why did you buy a PlayStation 1/2? What convinced you to get the console?

I bought a PS2 back then because frankly, I was a lot more loose with my money at the time. I never really knew how much fun I'd be having on it after years of owning it and eventually being able to compare it to the succeeding generations of consoles and games. I'd say that was a lucky decision on my part, as I don't feel the same joy from the PS3 even though it's a lot more advanced with a lot more uses and features. Don't get me wrong, though, the PS3 is still extremely fun to play on.

Nice point you got there. I guess it's true for you that nothing can beat the classics. Nonetheless, I'm glad you were able to get the PS2 and the PS3. I, on the other hand, was only lucky enough to own a PS1 and a PSP. I'm loose with my money, but my parents are not.

I bought every console I've ever bought because I love video games, and always have. I do have my preferences but i try not to be a fanboy. If theres a game or a few that i think are cool, ill play them, no matter what console theyre on. In my lifetime ive owned:

(missed out on the Sega 32x unfortunately)
Nintendo 64
Sega Saturn
PS1
Sega Dreamcast

(missed out on owning a PS2, but plenty of friends had one and i never hesitated to play theirs)

PS3 (admittedly, this one lasted like two weeks before i sold it)

Ive loved games from every era, every genre on every console. The number one actual deciding factor when i buy a console is "i dont have one of those yet and the price is great" especially if it comes with games.

I got a Playstation probably a year or 2 after it was out. I was young at the time, so I had no clue how old it was. I kind of had the same deal with my PS2. I didn't get it until about a year after its release.

I didn't buy the Playstation one because my brother gave it to me. I had already bought many games for the PS1 and he gave it to me because he got a PS2 and didn't need the PS1 anymore. Later I bought the PS2 because it had lots of games I liked to play plus I could play my PS1 games on it. I still have both even though I now have a PS3. I don't plan on getting rid of any of my old consoles when I get a PS4 either. I love all of them and I plan on keeping them in working condition for many years to come.

To play games of course. What else? I don't want any other thing to do on it but to play some games. I wanted a taste of some good 3D graphics back when I still only had a NES. And the PS1 was the most famous console at the time which is why that's what I bought.

I got my first PS1 as a gift from a friends because I was not really into game all that much back then. Also, my friends that would come over to my place had nothing to do and we would only like drink beer and watch TV. It got boring so one of them decided to buy the PS1 for us. It was fun while it lasted but those times didn't last very long.

Now that's real dedication! I would've done that too if only my parents weren't strict about spending money. They don't like me to spend my own money on video game related paraphernalia. Quite sad, I have to say.

Because I'm tired of getting raped by Microsoft and paying extra money for the privilege of using my own internet connection to watch shows and movies on a service (Netflix) that I already pay for. It's plain extortion and I boycotted MS because of it for the past year.

I had a Genesis and my neighbour had an SNES. He then bought a PS1, so next time a new console came out I figured I'd be the one buying it. PS2 had the hype surrounding it and being a kid I bought into it. I was also getting a pretty good deal on it, so I figured why not go for it.

Turned out to be a great decision in hindsight.

PlayStation 1: To play YouDon'tKnowJack and Jeopardy. I was so cool...

Oh, I think we had Wheel of Fortune, too.

PlayStation 2: Rock band. I played Rock Band morning, noon and night. I'm still surprised I didn't get totally sick of it until 2008 or so.

I was then a Nintendo fanboy at that time, and though I owned a Sega MegaDrive, I basically had everything Nintendo - from the Game and Watch, then the Game Boy to the NES and later the SNES. I guess I bought a PS because I wanted to see how this console would perform, and to my surprise, I eventually shifted support to Sony and its PlayStation.

My friends wouldn't stop talking about how great FF was, and how much fun they had playing Crash Bandicoot, and since my parents found a cheap PS1 I told them to buy it.
Since I loved the PS1, it was obvious that I would buy the PS2. To my surprise the PS2 ended up being even better, so I didn't think twice before getting a PS3.

The few main games that got me interested in PlayStation, and then having to go out and get one were Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto and Crash Bandicoot. I was really eager for Resident Evil on PS2 when I first heard it was being released and so this urged me to purchase a PS2 also. PS3 purchase came naturally as I knew there would be more great titles out for it. The GTA series was always a big decision pusher in this direction.

The main reason I bought a PS1 was because as a kid it was the first system I bought for myself and I had the money saved up for it. I can't really remember what games I played on it first, probably Final Fantasy 7 or Fighting Force. My mom actually bought us the PS2 for Christmas and had FFX, Smackdown: Just Bring It, and MGS2.

I bought a Playstation 1 way back. I think what sold me, was the fact that I needed a console and Playstation seemed to be on top back then. This was before Nintendo and Microsoft got hot, so Xbox and Gamecube was not all that popular.

I got a PS2 because my younger brother had a PS One and had nothing but sports titles (and if I wanted a load of sports titles I would've kept my Genesis) and I was looking for an Xbox at the time. At the time I had a N64 which I was very happy with, but this was the start of Nintendo consoles no longer having JRPGs and PlayStation having them.

I eventually got a PSX, but I honestly can't remember where it came from as I didn't buy it.

I've had all the consoles that Martin had except for the Sega CD, the Saturn, and the Game Gear. I wanted a Saturn though, but even at 7 I could tell it was a waste of money. I had a friend who had one (the only one) and he wasn't feeling it. We just played Sonic CD (I'd see pictures of Lunar in GameFan and want to play that).

Anyway, the first console I bought on my own was the PS2. I came in for an Xbox, but GameStop only had PS2. At the time the PS2 was growing on trees outside so I wasn't in a hurry to get one, but I got that and the GC anyways.

The PS2 was the first system that I bought with my own money, and I didn't know that the Xbox existed at the time.

My mom brought me one as a random gift when i was 9 years old. I was instantly hooked when i staerted playing it and i became an avid gamer since then.
