PS4 will be region-free

This is going to be great!
Mainly so I can buy games abroad at a much cheaper price and Import them to my home country and save some cash lol!
 
All I'm hearing is good news for the PS4 so far! Is Xbox One region-free as well? Haven't really been keeping up with all this information since so much was released yesterday at E3...

Nope. Xbox One is region-locked.
 
Another great piece of news about this great console. Sony is really pulling all the best points on this release, good for them.
 
This is good to hear, even though it doesn't affect me personally. I've never had any issues with region on consoles, but that's just my personal experience. It's certainly a plus for those it has effected, so it's a smart marketing strategy on Sony's part.
 
That's actually quite awesome, and works to the favor of many of those outside of the US as it lets them access cheaper prices (I heard this is a big thing in Australia). I read that Amazon is offering to sell them at US prices and with an additional shipping charge, ship them overseas to anyone who wishes to purchase. I find that really convenient though, as region-locking always felt a bit unnecessary to me, and being region free is a definite convenience!
 
This is another blow to Xbox One's ever dwindling popularity. I don't know what Microsoft is cooking but Sony is definitely winning the war right now. Microsoft is concerned with generating more revenue only which in turn does not fare well with the customers. It seems as though Microsoft is deaf nowadays, not listening to its loyal fans. Sony on the other hand is just about doing everything right.
 
This is good news indeed. Honestly, I'm not too much against the recent changes that we've had to think or worry about recently, but I would like them to at least have a purpose when they are being applied to current gen consoles other than making the company more money. I think the value has to be there whenever a restriction would be put in place for it to work, or else people will just shy away from it and the whole market suffers as a result, as is what MS has just done. I think Sony made a good move with this one, as there is not really much reason to region lock games as far as I know.
 
Good news! I'm sure this will save me a few pounds on games. Often, I could find the game cheaper overseas with the shipping prices included. Obviously, it takes a lot longer but it will all add up to another game. Also this means that there won't be specific games for certain countries. So we're now all equals.
 
Oh neat. This is good news for region exclusive or region delayed titles. I've always thought region locking was a dumb thing, and I guess Sony agrees.
 
Could you explain this in detail?

From my understanding it just means that the PS4 won't hold titles in certain regions at different times.
 
Same as PS3 then,games are region free (with the very odd exception) but DLC prob wont be,like PS3 also.
Most likely you will have to buy DLC from same region as game.
(In AUS however UK PSN store DLC works with AUS PS3 games cause BLES codes on discs may be on both regions)
 
Is this even news? The PS3 was region free. The will obviously be region free.

Region based restrictions are stupid anyways.
 
That is great news, but I agree that it is really not news at all. I would have easily assumed that the Playstation 4 was region free. That is crazy because Xbox has been region free.
