How much do you think PS4 games SHOULD cost?

For physical copies, $60 works. Developers end up getting more than that in DLC--which people will buy--anyway. Now digital copies, those should be in the $30-50 range or have very regular specials that shave some off the price. Digital shouldn't be the same as physical, instruction manual, case, and artwork copies.

GET REAL! THIS IS NOT A CELL PHONE PLAN! trust me, they dont lose any money on the consoles. Not saying that console manufacturers (sony, microsoft) dont develop games, but not nearly enough to make up for losses in like you are talking about. It is all about a free market system. the games ARE worth whatever people are willing to pay for them. If EVERYONE banded together and bought NO copies of a BIG new release at say $60 I Guarantee they would lower the price until they found the sweet spot where they could sell a lot of copies and still make money. Not bashing, but f you dont understand a business concept, keep your trash comments to yourself.

Not really. Gamers will buy games if the prices are not completely ridiculous and while $60 is a lot its still sounds somewhat reasonable. All companies price their games in this range now, so people have no option but to buy them at that price. As for as people banding together and not buying the game until prices drop? Well that's never gonna happen but the very fact that a bunch of people here are cribbing about how overpriced games are, means that for the general user they are overpriced.

But the people behind that game spent years to make it before they got anything. So 60$ is a good place. I would love of they were 40-50 but thats not gonna happen. Look at the collectors editions now...200$ thats not going to happen for me atleast lol

I think the prices need to be reduced. I'm not sure by how much, but there is no need to carry on with the prices they're still asking for nowadays. I mean, the demand has increased drastically in the last few years, so they should be able to lower the prices, possibly increasing their sales. But look at it this way, if people carry on paying for these prices, then why should they even bother lowering them?

In the UK the prices aren't too expensive, and they do have offers too, but in Spain (I live in the UK and in Spain) new games get as expensive as 70€ which is $94!

There are a lot of games out there that are AAA in price buy certainly not in content. What would be amazing is if they had a system where they rated the amount of content, hours, gameplay, and replayability factored into how much a game cost. I've payed $60 for games that weren't worth that much.

The console manufacturers dont make money on first party game sales. They make money on ALL game sales. The developers pay a licensing fee to the console manufacturers so that they can release games on that console. The console manufacturers make more on licensing fees than consoles, they DO take a loss on consoles initially.

Or subsequently, $1 per hour of gaming. Thus elder scrolls and final fantasy games, an easy $100-120. For games like CoD, $12.

Now Australia, Europe, and South America should definitely get lower prices on games. $90+ locally is crazy, man.

I agree with easing the prices elsewhere. I'd like if the prices were a little less here in the states (like $50), but prices are crazy elsewhere.

Plus like Tiger said, developers can get 1/4 of the price of game by releasing an unfinished titles with DLC and charging.

Yeah that's crazy talk.

Considering a movie costs $10 to $20 depending on where you live and the amount of hours of entertainment you get in a game, I still think it's fair like I said above. But charging per hour? LOL gamers would friggin revolt.

I think $60 for "triple A" titles is acceptable, as long as the production values are high enough. I wouldn't mind a drop in price though, something like 40 or 50 bucks would be much nicer. For smaller/indie titles, anywhere between 5-30 is fine, whatever the developers want for it. And DLC should be outlawed.

I enjoy DLC, what I want to go away is disc locked DLC. If I purchase a game for $60 and there's DLC content contained in the disk that I bought, why should I pay an extra $20 or so to unlock things that are in the disc that I own? Why would you do that? I'm okay with downloading separate content but not when it's on the physical disc that I already bought. I'm looking at you Capcom.

Maybe when we convert fully from physical discs to digital downloads the prices will drop. Until then I think it's staying at $60, especially for the AAA titles. I just don't see publishers changing their minds about that price anytime soon. Now if we're talking digital downloads then I don't think that they should cost as much as their physical counterparts.

For some reason I believe publishers will attempt to run the price at $60 for digital when they shouldn't be as much. When/if games go fully digital I wonder what game stores will do.

Hopefully they'll see sense. It's more of a matter of when not if physical discs go away and we all start buying our games digitally. Though I can imagine that for people who don't like to give out their card information they might still sell a few physical copies. But once digital downloads are the norm, I want to think that publishers will be reasonable in their prices because they don't have to spend money on making discs. But who knows.

I think $60 is good. Considering we used to pay around that amount for SNES/N64 games back in the day, I'd say it's a really good deal when taking inflation into account. Raising it would just anger too many people though, but, at the same time, we want to be fair to developers. I'm okay with what they do now, which is offer the base game for $60 and then offer DLC for additional money. Sure we all want things to be free, but gamers have to understand that each generation games get more expensive to make, so someone has to front the costs and if we want these games to continue to get bigger and better, we need to find ways for them to make more money.

When/if games go fully digital I wonder what game stores will do.

They'll plaster/brick over the usual entrances and put in a little drive thru window for you to get your consoles, joysticks, and subscription to GameFan. There will be a menu at the entrance and they'll tell you to "Please go to the second window"

Then you'll check your bag and say "I asked for a Dreamcast II. This is an ColecoVision Omega...and where's my container of New Physical Game Smell. I want to spray that after I download the new Jet Set Radio."

...perfect world.
