I'm wondering how many people here actually played online on the PS2. I got on the PS2 bandwagon way late, so I already had the slim model with built-in network support, but my country was not officially supported, so I never got the online "support" disc. They just sent me a disc of demos and a paper in a shape of a DVD telling me that I'm out of luck. Which is also why I'm making this thread - did you ever experience PS2 online? How was it? Was the netcode good? Was he community lively? Were the games easy to find? Let us know! :)

I never tried the PS2 online. I saw other people playing online, but I never got any online games for the PS2. I kinda wish I could have experienced online play on my PS2, but I have been satisfied with what I have and I just look forward to online play with the PS4.

Nope. Never tried it. I really didn't find any games that were worth playing online. Even Final Fantasy XI didn't woo me over. I wanted to try out the multiplayer games in Metal Gear Solid Subsistence but I never got around to trying it. I think that most PS 2 games focused more on delivering a superb one player gaming experience rather than online multiplayer.

I tried to play Madden online. I mainly wanted the updated rosters. unfortunately I didn't have a great internet connection at the time. That combined with the fact that online networks weren't amazing at the times, made it a poor experience.

Yes, it was I pain to connect it to the internet since I only had a modem and it was on my room where there's no television so the PlayStation was on the living room.
I had to stretch the modem cable and the PlayStation too so it could be connected, but it actually worked and I played Tony Hawks Underground 2 online, I was so excited too play with other people, big moment for me hahaha.

Nah, never tried it myself. I actually had no idea you could play games online on the PS2, seeing as I was so young when I did have one. Did the early PS2 models even have online compatibility?

Never tried any PS2 games online because I didn't own a PS2. Haha! Despite that, if I did own a PS2 during its peak era, I am quite sure that playing online games is out of the question. First, we didn't have enough money to get a stable internet connection back then. Second, PS2 games were quite expensive, so pirating was the way to go.

Never played online on the PS2 because during the PS2 era, internet hasn't really picked up yet and broadband internet didn't extst in my place yet. The highest I had was a 56k dial-up connection which was only enough to surf the net.

EverQuest Online Adventures was really the only game worth playing PS2 online. I also played Champions of Norrath online occasionally. I always thought it sucked that you needed an extra expansion to get online to work for the PS2 when Gamecube and DC were just...ready. Also sucked that I still needed an attachment to get local multiplayer going.

PS3 got everything right that the PS2 should've.

Maybe? This wasn't something that I haven't really thought about. I remember having most of the accessories, the Eyetoy, the thing that let you have more than two controllers at the same time, maybe I had a router. Going to have to think about this.

I had very many games that had online capability, but i never did get to play online. Mainly because i didn't hook up a cable to the PS2, but i would've liked to play online, mainly my Madden 11 game

It's not surprising if you don't remember, online play on PS2 wasn't that big a deal like it was on Live and DC, but a slightly bigger deal than GC.

I would play EQOA with SpaceTiger back in the day. When he told me about it and I played it over his house I picked it up later that week. Best memory was that weekend of sitting up for hours and leveling up.

I remember playing Final Fantasy XI on PS2. It was pretty fun, none of my friends had it so I was the one telling everyone about it.

Those were the good old days when online had just came to consoles...and having to play with dial up. It was fun at times but also dreadful.

I never played PS2 online. I always wanted to but by the time we got internet in our house I had a PS3 and wasn't planning on getting the online stuff for the PS2.
