VR tech isn't happening

I don't recall asking anyone to bring VR tech to the Ps4, but apparently there was a demand for it because the company nDreams has come out to say that it's not happening. People have been hammering them hard about rumors that a VR headset may come to the Ps4 and while that would be cool, I don't think that the technology is quite there yet.

Hell, the whole atomic/space age thing of the 1950s and 1960s who make you think we'd have widespread hovercars, jetpacks, rayguns, and living in space...or going by the 1980s everything should be a wasteland by now.

VR is a ways off to where people generally want it. You know, where you might consider calling into work saying "My PlayStation said my heart rate was irregular after playing Uncharted and I'm not sure what condition I'll be in...yes, I was using the VR headset...no, I didn't get a doctor's notice before. Okay I'll be at work in a few minutes."

I won't lie, a lot of stuff seems like we should be there by now. By the time we finally get there it'll be like "About time...you're like 40 years late on all of it."

I can honestly say I don't remember anyone asking for it either. There are people who are really interested in it, but I don't know about clamoring for VR, really.

True, I feel the same too. Like when I hear updates that the rover found something on Mars. It's like "Get back to me when you find an ancient or living city, corpses, or a city of corpses on Mars." You really have to have lowered expectations of science for them to count as realistic expectations.

I wouldn't say "lowered expectations" just realistic. However from the 50s and 60s you really would expect us to be further along if you grew up during that time. Being born the period before and having grown up in the time where we should've been extremely far along it's like "Meh...We're not at a bad position at all right now."

You're right. Given what decade you're coming from and what the view of the future is supposed to be that you're seeing in media. Like in when my mom grew up there was Star Trek, The Jetsons, all kinds of sci-fi shows, and space disco...tremendous space disco.

I'm still pissed because around 1985 I read a book that said by the year 2000 we would be in flying cars. We aren't in flying cars, and have no prospect to be for a long, long time. I think it's funny for me to watch Almost Human on Fox and they have androids, but are still driving in cars that have wheels on the ground. I think if we have androids, we should be so advanced to have flying cars.

And Almost Human is set to what, 2040?

lol Whoever wrote that book at a lot of hope for the future to speed up to what the decades prior said 2000 should be like.

The thing with flying cars is that it wouldn't be too...safe to have cars just whizzing around in the skies. Plus you have people who just need to race. If anything breaks down and crash then the houses and other buildings below are screwed. That's probably why all the buildings in the Jetsons are built way above ground.

Yeah but they also never said how all of those houses were able to stay up in the air either. Solar power? Aren't they susceptible to falling out of the air as well?

And I presume that those "domiciles in the sky" are for the filthy rich, while the "poor" people are left to walk the Earth (which probably was scorched by some kind of war, ala The Matrix or Terminator).

Nah, Hannah-Barbara science keeps those houses up on those thin...stilts? It's like Karin's Tower/Kami's Lookout. Ancient aliens and sh** like that lol.

Smartphones? LOL! They had communicators in the first Star Trek that make even the iPhone 5S look like an antiquated brick. And KITT was a self-driving car in the 80's (Knight Rider).

I assume we wouldn't need WiFi in the future, there will probably be something much better in the future.

Some of that doesn't seem distant future (although it wasn't said where in the future). Self driving cars is pretty distant future to me.

Smartphones and self driving seems pretty distant future to me. I would add Wifi if I lived in a denser population where everything is close together and you can pretty much walk most places like New York or Tokyo and Wifi is easily accessible (which is why portable is so big in Japan). Memphis is somewhat like Birmingham in that it's not as dense.
