Dual shock 4 analog sticks wearing off?

This is a problem I have noticed with all of the Dualshock controllers. Ever since the PlayStation 1 got it's first dualshock. The rubber that the joysticks are coated with is very prone to smearing of over time. The rubber is almost grainy in away and doesn't make it very durable at all.

I have the exact same problem, a chuck on the material covering the analog sticks has already fallen off. I was surprised to see that the controller was already falling apart, I blame all the FIFA games I have lost! Hopefully there will be a way to prevent it on future controllers or a way to replace the covering.

Been playing for a long time and not having any wear issues either...yet. Hope it stays that way.

I put on Orb pro thumb cap's day one so ofcourse all OK for me.
I suggest to all try regular thumb grip's or the pro version for extra length,or kontrol freek for extra length too.

Thats a great idea, it protect and prolongs the aestethics of the PS4... which is always a good thing if you decide to resell later

Just make sure you always have backup grips.
The main issues can be they wear out quickly!
Always need ready ones.

I have the ORB grips, but they aren't very good for playing games such as UFC.

Which grips are the best to prevent your fingers from slipping of them?

I have had the same issue. I only play a few games and play for a few hours a week at most. I have had mine since launch and the grip on the left axis has split and is starting to wear off. Nothing you can do other than buy covers for them as previously mentioned. Looks as though Sony cut back in a few places to make the price competitive with the Xbox One and this appears to be one of the short cuts. A bit of an overview in hindsight.

I have recently just purchased the ORB grips and have had no problems with them. They protect the controller and actually enhance your game play.

I noticed that mine were wearing away a month ago. I ended up buying a cheap pair of thumb grips in a discount store. They're not Orb brand, but they're the exact same apart from that and only cost $1. I like the raised height of the grips, makes them controller a lot more ergonomic, I get less strain in my wrists now.

My analog's have been doing grand for me.

I have the one with 4 dots on the outside, they are a tad bit worn down, but they are still smooth at the base, and pretty easy to use.

Yea, they do start to wear off. But, what really bugs me is the fact that Sony could have easily made durable sticks, rather than opening up a market for stick covers. I mean, for the amount that the PS4 costs, they could extend the courtesy of using relatively high quality material.

My sister played with my PS4, and it is amazing in such short time, she managed to destroy the analog stick. the left one wore off to the point it hurts my thumb.

Any idea where can I get those analog things which Oberon posts? anyone has the link?

For anyone not comfortable with taking apart their controller to put the xb1 sticks in, GelTabz have proved their worth for me. They only slightly raise the sticks, and you can pick them up pretty cheap at gamestop. I'd imagine they wouldn't be great on top of sticks that are already missing chunks of rubber, but they'd be great for preventative maintenance.

Edit: they have much better grip, too.

The regular ones are called Orb Thumb Grips but if you want the extended stick version which I use they are called Orb Thumb Grip Pro.
Pretty sure I got them on ebay ages back.
Search there.

Thanks mate!
The normal grip one looks more comfortable!

Hi.i bought some butter fox thumb grips. I got an exchange from my retailer on my dual shock no problem. These grips seem a great cover got the thumb sticks.

The same is happening to me! :( .. I have 2 controllers, analog sticks of both is wearing off! .You can use thumb grips to cover the the top (You can get from Amazon). But I don't like using thumb grip, it doesn't feel good, I feel like hiding something. Sony should do something about this, at least use a better material.

I didn't have any problems with the analog sticks until now, but I'll keep an eye out. My ps2 controllers used to wear off a lot and it was frustrating, but I haven't experienced the same with the DS4 controllers yet.
