When will Sony stop developing games for the Vita?

I don't think that Sony will allow the Vita to really die. They have some thinking to do with regard to the proprietary game format and maybe even a bit of a price break, though it's really not overly priced. The issue I think is that people are tired of purchasing games over and over again for different systems. If they would create an app store (like apple) and allow people to purchase one and download to any sony device I think that they will bring interest back to the Vita and even the PS4...which I think is superior to the Xbox One, but will suffer in sales due to not having backwards compatibility and having to repurchase existing game libraries.

But they already do that, they have cross-buy. The thing is that it's up to the publisher to allow or disallow it, so not all games have that feature. But there's quite a bunch of games that when bought for PS3 give you the Vita version and vice-versa.

What they need to do is lower the price of their proprietary memory cards a lot further (that's THE thing people about the most) and bring the Vita TV over to the West eventually.

I don't think it is dying all they will do is make sure that you can use it with the ps4 and more than likely add more games for it. We have one and we like it, but it could use more games though. Many people trade theirs because they want one or the other. They will find more ways for you to use the vita and bring out more stuff for it. I am sure Sony will not let it die off.

I think when the price drops over the years the Vita will start to fly off the shelves. As the PS4 also becomes more commonplace the Vita is a perfect addition too it. I think Sony will win in the long term.

Sony's not stopping the PS Vita. I'd say it has a good 3 years minimum before they move on to another in PSP line. Right now it's hobbling along, not using the wall for support and not bleeding all over the place like the PSP Go.

I love my PSvita, I just wish they added more games to it. Also some of the good games they had on the PSP are not on the PSvita. For instance, the psp mini game "Vector tower defense" isn't on the vita for what seems like no reason. I can re-download any of my other psp mini games to my vita but not that one. If I could get vector tower defense on my vita I would be so happy, my psp is old and worn out from constant use so I'd love to play the time consuming game on my vita. Also I love those 2d metroidvania type games but can't seem to find any.

PS Vita is sticking around. I believe the bleeding will stop soon enough for it. Probably next year.

Yeah this and the last generation gave fans an altered sense of success and failure for consoles. Sometimes it's just not a console/handheld's year. Sometimes they'll sell out the gate and other times they just need to mature and grow into its library. The Vita needs to mature is all. 2014 might be its year where it actually gets some life or maybe 2015.

It still has some time though before you can go "Okay Sony, knock it off with the handhelds, you don't have the chops."

I'd say Sony would attempt one more handheld after Vita and if it doesn't take off, they'll pack it in.

I am keeping my Vita for one reason and one reason only: Persona 4 Golden. I've sunk nearly 160hours on that game, and I still go back for more every now and then! Seriously, its worth the money just for this excellent "remix" of a game that came out near the end of ps2.

I see this going on into eternity. I see this becoming an infinite vortex of Sony that engulfs all of the universe and sends us spiraling into the Sonyverse.

I think that most stand alone video game systems have been replaced by smartphones, tablets and like. The reason is because these other smart devices can do so much more than just play video games. but what most people don't realize is that the Vita (like the PSP) can also do so much more than just play video games. The marketing effort is what seems to be thebad thing about the Vita, not the console. So, like many of the other handheld gaming devices, Vita will probably go slowly away, unless someone takes a cue from the smart device marketing guys and lets people in on the Vita secret...that it does a lot more than just play video games.

I think that the Vita will be around for awhile. I think Sony may fall into the trap that they did with the PSP, which was just not enough good games. Almost like it was an afterthought. If they start giving the Vita some good, solid titles, it may just stand a chance of gaining more ground. Also, this remote play should be great for it as well, as long as they keep with it and do a good job "joining" the two systems. They quite possibly should see a decent surge in sales from this announcement.

I believe they plan on trying to sell this for another 5 years and add new functionality to it as well as a more unified collaboration with PS4 and maybe even PS3. Since PS4 is the future and the Vita is widely marketed by Sony, I don't see any plans of them stopping.

Another five years sounds about right. You know, five for the handhelds to continue being built with that fifth or so being when the next is announced. I do see there being a third in the Portable line.

I think they should honestly stop making handhelds because I believe Nintendo has a pretty good hold on the market I think. I mean the only reason I ever wanted a Vita was for P4: Golden and even that was not enough to warrent a purchase, also I guess Tearaway looks good but still not enough.

I wouldn't say Sony should hang it up on portables. They just need to Sony studio-made, non-ported, titles that define the PSP family of handhelds. Like Vita is great for indies, but you're not really going to move units. Indies on Vita are for people who are aware of indie titles and already have a Vita.

I don't think they will ever stop because of their economy rising. They probably sold a lot of PS4 Consoles so, I think that the PS Vita will be a sub PS4 for them.

Either that or actually start helping all the million of unique Japanese games for Vita get localized already, because there's a lot of non-port games over in Japan and it seems the only two bringing them over are Atlus USA and NISA.

They really need to get stuff localized here. I believe it was said on the forum, but it's down to a company's feeling of what could get over in the U.S and elsewhere.
