Random question. Are the download times you are showing via wireless or hard wired? If they are wireless, there are a few factors that will contribute to the long load times, and they are: Age and type of router ( single band, dual band, b-g-n-ac wireless protocols). Firmware version of your router. Type of internet connection (DSL-Cable-fiber). Overall "plant" capacity of your ISP. How many devices are connected to your router. And finally, are you trying to download during "peak" times in your area.

I am a service technician for a national ISP, and I see this on a near daily basis. If one of the above things is out of spec, it will cause your DL time to increase significantly.

No need to apologise - it's a perfectly reasonable question! Now, I'm not a technical person and have already said so in the past. The majority of technical discussions using seemingly random numbers and letters just go over my head entirely!

By 'update', whenever I've bought a new PS3 game over the past year or more I can never play it straight away like I used to. I always have to download some 'update' or another first in order for it to work. I presumed this was something on the disc that the PS3 needed putting onto it in order for it to play the game. Obviously, I have no idea if that's the same thing or not... All I know is I never had any of this with any PS1 or PS2 game I purchased. I have never connected my PS3 to the internet so I haven't a clue what would happen if I did.

Again though, this just brings me back to my point over console manufacturers (and the game producers/developers) having a 'presumption' that everyone has top class internet. It's a dangerous thought to have and make no doubt, it will alienate many gamers until utility companies can provide the sort of quality internet that's required to run these new generation machines. Either that, or for the costs of these top of the range internet packages in place to become more affordable.

As I've said, I've just upgraded to an unlimited, Fibre Optic package in preparation for getting a PS4. It’s supposed to be about the best out there at this moment in time. All I can say is the difference in speed over my old broadband is minimal. It works on forums better than the broadband but for actual streaming such as YouTube, the difference is barely noticeable… It’s still sluggish to load, the picture still occasionally freezes for a second or two e.t.c…

With this new package in place, I have no problem with using the internet when it comes to future gaming as and when I do get a PS4. I really do want to give it a good try. However because of the issues with speed still persisting, it’s one reason why I’m still holding back until I can get more Amazon vouchers or some sort of price reduction simply because I know the reliance upon the internet these days is so heavy. I don’t want to pay full price for a console which I can only use, what, half of it’s features if I can't either figure out how to hook it up in the first place or for it to be hooked up but running terribly.

Well with the older consoles (PSX,PS2) there was now ay to update and fix a game after it went gold and put on disc. It was actually worse because if a game had bugs, you were stuck with a buggy game. The lack of an internet connection and infrastructure did not allow for patches. The updates you receive when you first put in the disc is something that time did not allow to be put on the disc and was being added after the fact. The internet connection on current consoles allows developers to continuously better games. As far as internet connections, the US is actually behind as far as development is concerned. Many countries are far ahead of us so unfortunately our technology is halted by such limitations. With that said I am in an area that allows for great internet. I have Fiber and just upgraded my package and it's unlike anything I've ever used before. I've had it for a while, but I remember how sluggish broadband was and this is far superior.

Seriously? Don't say the PS4 sucks until you have a valid reason. Your internet sucks. If you played it on a standard def TV would you also be saying the resolution on the PS4 SUCKS DONT BUY!!!?
Find someone who has a real internet connection and sideload the update to a USB stick.
It doesn't happen every time I want to play a game.
Hurry up and sell your PS4 and get off of these forums. Don't talk about it, be about it.

Um, fan boy much? It is our right to criticize all consoles in order to get them to better the standards for consumers. If you really want a list of things wrong with the PS4 I can easily pull one up. Same goes for the XB1 and WiiU. None of these machines are perfect or even close to it; granted they are still great pieces of tech. Becoming a passive fan boy gives them the right to never fix anything or strive to better the development of the tech. Complaint such as the one in this thread are great for the market and in particular, us the gamers. I don't understand why you would be so upset with some one just because they have an issue with the machine they just paid hundreds of dollars for. they have a right to criticize. We don't owe these companies our loyalty. We paid for this consoles, they weren't gifted to us. If anything they owe us their loyalty which they have not awarded us.

At what point did I say the PS4 was perfect? I am far from a passive fanboy, but thanks for making wild assumptions. I have zero loyalty to any company so your diatribe about fanboysim was a waste of space. I was 360 all the way last gen and I will probably buy a XBone in a year or two. I built a machine with Nvidia for myself and AMD for my bro. I've went android apple android on cells. You really hit the nail on the head. I agree with your remarks about criticizing the consoles, but he has no right to complain with such a horrible internet speed. How does saying it sucks and not to buy it help the market? Especially when the whole problem is because he is on a slower than dirt connection. I am all for getting issues out for people to hear, but the issue is not the PS4's fault. The inconvenience of PS3 and 4 updates is a valid argument, but the issue is more like 1-10 minutes for people with a real connection, not 30 hours per game.

I do agree that telling someone to get off the forums because they said a console is garbage and not to buy it falls hard into the fanboy realm, the OP did basically say that the PS4 was crap and not to buy solely on their frustrations with a slow update...which 9 out of 10 is probably a janky connection on top of the PS4 trying to handle multiple downloads. 330+ MB shouldn't take 4 hours unless you're in the sticks, you're using dial up, and someone keeps picking up the phone to make a call at the worst moments.

Not right to call for someone to just sell their stuff and banish them from the forum like you're king/queen of the forum and not cool to just call the console garbage on something that is mostly on your end (not your fault, but it is on your end). By the late PS3/360/Wii period we all knew that you needed a solid internet connection at the minimum to get anything done and that a bunch of updates would be a necessary evil due to--as jstep mentioned--developers rushing out the main game (which is also half the reason we get DLC).

Also I agree with KN1GHTMARE's point about game updates not being possible in the PSX/PS2 period. I was originally going to say "But in that period games just worked across the board, updates weren't really needed and if there were bugs they weren't major to where they break the game" but then I kept reading and it made sense with bad games lol. Jumping back to jstep's point about the need to rush the games out and tying it into part of KN1GHTMARE's brief jump back to the PSX/PS2 period, news about game development progress wasn't as readily available on a regular basis as it is now and the connection between gamer and development studio wasn't as strong as it is now.

Back then you got the game when it was ready usually at the launch date mentioned. If it got pushed back before a magazine could publish the update and the website was mostly for show then you would most likely hear about it from your game store. Due to that space between developer and gamer there was less pressure, more time to put into games, and less buggy/janky games.

Now and days an extremely buggy game that was meant to be good and can be brought to at least decent through updates. You know, I always felt that about games back in the PS1 and PS2 era. Like if you got a great game that was somewhat buggy it was still basically a great game. If it was a console game you couldn't update it so you took it as it is. If it was a great game and somewhat buggy by the time of PS3, it could be knocked down to good as long as it was mostly playable and people were on their stuff with updates. A great game that is just buggy than all get out and a lot of updates are needed will be kneecapped.

I guess we don't have the same definition for the term "fanboy". Was I being a jerk? Absolutely. I in no way however, defended Sony or said it was a "Perfect device" like Kn1ghtmare (put the words in my mouth) said. Also, I didn't just pull "sell your stuff" out of thin air, the OP said it, all I said was to hurry up. As far as thinking i'm the "king/queen" of the forum, I didn't banish him. I just told him to hurry up and sell it (like he suggested) and to leave. Kn1ghtmare made wild assumptions off of a simple post and then used the assumptions to defend his thought that I'm a fanboy. Neither of you caught on to my motives at all. I despise people getting on forums and saying something SUCKS for bunk reasons, telling people not to buy it, and then threatening to sell it.
