Why did you stop playing your PlayStation 1?

I played on my PS1 for more than 4 years. I played it for hours and hours. But then, one day, the PS1 stopped reading disks. The lens reader could no longer move no matter what I did. That was the end of my happy days with my PS1. I did not get it fixed because new consoles were already starting to show. The Dreamcast was already being showcased and the PS2 was already being rumored. What happened to your PS1?

The PS1's disc reader got busted. I enjoyed the days when I used to play both original and pirated games, until all of a sudden the console stopped functioning insofar as pirated games are concerned. Though the console can still read original discs, but sooner or later it got busted for originals as well. Now my PS1 is just left at home, abandoned. Yes, it feels sad, but I already have a PS2 which is still functioning.

When I got a decent PC. Up to that point the PC was the dominant way to game for me but the PC opened my eyes through its marvelous powerful hardware I still carried on using the PS1 for a while after that , but the time that I was spending on it was being reduced until at one point I just didn't bother.

Mine just stopped working, and at the time, I didn't think it would be worth it to get it fixed anymore. I just sold it to a friend and he did have it fixed, but now that I'm asked this question, I wonder whatever happened to it now. Hopefully, it's still with him with all of my games, and that it still works. I may just call him and drop by to play some nostalgic games if it still does.

I didn't stop. When my first PS1 broke down I just bought another. This one is working for me till now.

But I don't play as often as before of course. There are so much newer consoles with awesome games I just don't have the time and attention to play the PS1 games over and over again. But some I still enjoy.

I stopped playing my PlayStation 1 because when I moved, I lost it and haven't seen it since. A part of me thinks it is still in my old storage shed but I'm to sure. It didn't really bother me though because at the time, I had already got a PS2. Since the PS2 can play PS1 games I was in luck. Hopefully one day I will find it though, maybe give it test run and see if it still works.

We had the same experience. It also stopped reading disks and sometimes only loaded up to the Playstation logo part. The lens still moved though, but the technician said it's already broken and needed replacement. The repair cost was so costly that I just let it become a paperweight and a dust collector. By that time I discovered PC gaming and later on PS2 so I was happy again.

I never had one In fact, I didn't actually buy my PS2 until '07. I'm always behind the times, lol....

I don't like using my old consoles, simply because the lens or whatever will likely break. That's why i equipped my PS2 with a hard drive, so that i wouldn't need to use the lens anymore. There's also a discless solution coming for the PS1, so i hope you haven't thrown it out, google "PSIO playstation" for more info.

I had stopped playing my PS1 because it simply stopped working. As a result, I was forced to play my PS1 games either on my PS2, PS3, or my emulators on the computer.

Surprisingly, my PS1 still works but not all the games run proper though. Maybe, the lens is broke but still my favorite titles like Quake, Tekken and some classic ones run just fine. I never stopped playing my first console. I even managed to keep my games collection intact in a neatly stacked pouch and play them whenever I feel nostalgic. Besides, it's fun to see how PS1 games look on a 42" plasma television with outdated yet cute graphics, lol! I play CTR, Syphon Filter and Twisted Metal now & then.

I had my playstation one for close to five years before I officially stopped playing it. I had gotten a Playstation 2 and even after buying it, I still played my playstation 1 quite often. I have siblings and we would all have to take turns playing on the console, and so whenever I could not play my PS2 I would sometimes go in the other room and play on my PS1. Sadly over time my PS1 started having issues with reading discs as some of the other posters have said. I remember when I was still progressing through Final Fantasy IX, during the CG cut scenes they would lag or freeze making it difficult to beat the game since you could not skip cut scenes at the time. After some time, we finally boxed up our Playstation 1 and we have not touched it since. I think we still have it in a closet somewhere with all the cords and controllers still in the box. When I have kids it will be fun to show them what I used to play games on.

I stopped playing with my Sony Playstation 1 as I upgraded to playstation 2 as it was launched in the market. We all know that Playstation 2 was a big hit for Sony and that's the reason why I was not able to resist myself to upgrade to playstation 2, also the Playstation 2 supported all the Playstation 1 games due to which I found no reason for not buying the playstation 2.

I still have not stopped playing my Playstation 1. It still works and I have nearly all the games that I ever bought for the system. The graphics are out of date but the games are still fun. I tend to play it more when friends come over and they pick out certain multiplayer games for nostalgic reasons.

I still occasionally play games on my PS1, but only certain nostalgia games. I like the retrogames and it feels more authentic for me when I don't have access to save states and handy cheats.

I became an angsty 18 year old and gave up on video games for a few years so I could party and waste a few years of my life. Once I got out of that mess, I dove right back in. I can still enjoy my PS1 games like they are new except for a few exceptions, so I hope I never stop playing it.

Well once the PS2 came out i just really had no need for the PS1, as id always get the new games and such. I felt a bit bad about leaving the PS1, but its never been a huge icon as the PS2 was so it wasnt a hard move for me.

Because my PS3 can play PS1 games already, so i guess it's just better to leave the old PS1 get his deserved rest after so many years of hard work for me!

I stopped playing the actual console in around 2005, when I finally got a PS2. It was around 1999 that I got the PS1, so I played it for a good 6 years. But I still play PS1 games through the PSN. I recently finished playing Breath of Fire IV (great RPG btw).
